I don't think it will make a difference, but I have to give it a try just out of curiosity.Īs I said before, I have much less hope of getting full NA on my old nuvi 855, and cloning will be the only hope for that old device. That way, Garmin Express will not need to split the files across internal and external storage. When I get time, I will retry the map update using cloning with a large thumb drive. ![]() I have not found any convincing explanation about why Garmin is downloading the extra JCV file on these old devices. That is still a mystery to me as I don't think both of these files are required. I did get both versions of the large JCV file. There was plenty of room on the 8 GB SD card to hold both sections of the map files and the file naming rules on the 7x5 series should allow both a gmapsupp and a gmapsup1 file, but apparently Garmin Express wasn't willing to install it that way. The JCV files were installed in internal memory. ![]() The "All US" map file was installed on the SD card as gmapsup1. I thought GE said I was getting full NA, but maybe I missed the naming distinction between "full NA" and "All US". It recognized the SD card just fine, completed sucessfully, and I thought I was getting the full CN NA, but when I booted the device up, all I had was "CN NA ALL US", in other words minus Canada and Mexico. I just used native Garmin Express (no cloning). I have finished with my first attempt at updating my old nuvi 755T to the 2023.20 CN NA map. I am guessing the 755 will handle it but I don't hold much hope for the 855, as Garmin Express doesn't even recognize use of the SD card on that series. The US map was put in internal storage as gmapprom, the second map file was put on the SD card in the Map folder and is named D9644010A.It will be interesting to see how this is handled on my two old nuvi devices (755T and 855) which have smaller internal memory and more severe map file naming restrictions. On my nuvi 3597, it shows up on the Settings/MyMaps as 2 maps, with US being separate from Canada
